Submission Terms

Last updated: 29/07/2026

Thank you for considering sharing your story.

This project is built on trust. These terms explain what happens when you submit a story, how it may be used, and what rights you keep.

By submitting a story, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms.

Who can submit?

You must be at least 18 years old.

Your submission should be based on your own experiences and, to the best of your knowledge, be truthful.

What kind of stories am I looking for?

I am looking for personal accounts of the moment you crossed a line in a relationship. I am interested in honest reflection rather than perfect writing.

Stories may be edited for grammar, spelling or length, but I will always aim to preserve your voice and the meaning of your experience.

Does submitting guarantee publication?

No.

I expect to receive many more stories than can be included in the final book. Every submission will be read with care, but I cannot guarantee that your story will be published or that I will be able to respond personally.

Who owns my story?

You always remain the copyright owner of your submission.

By submitting your story, you give me, Maxine Beech, a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to read, edit, reproduce and publish your submission as part of this book project and its promotion, in print, digital and audio formats.

This licence allows me to work with literary agents, publishers, editors and designers if the project is later published professionally.

Can I remain anonymous?

Yes.

You may choose to:

  • use your real name

  • use a pseudonym

  • remain anonymous

If your story is selected, identifying details may be changed where appropriate to help protect your privacy and the privacy of others.

Can I withdraw my submission?

Yes.

You may withdraw your submission at any time before the manuscript enters its final production stage.

Once a manuscript has been finalised for publication, it may no longer be possible to remove individual stories.

Will I be paid?

Submitting a story does not create a paid writing arrangement.

If publication arrangements change in the future, I will contact contributors if appropriate.

Will you contact me?

I may contact you if:

  • I need clarification about your story

  • I would like to discuss publication

  • I have questions during editing

  • I need to confirm details before publication

Please protect other people's privacy

Many stories involve other people.

Please avoid including unnecessary identifying information about anyone else. If your story is selected, names and identifying details may be changed to help protect everyone's privacy.

My commitment to contributors

I understand that many submissions will describe deeply personal experiences.

Whether or not your story is ultimately published, I will treat your submission with care, respect and sensitivity.
